Kindergarten - 2nd grade Club Descriptions 2022-2023 School Year
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Lego Club
Calling all builders! Kindergarten & 1st grade Lego Club will be an introduction to building through guided activities. Students will complete build challenges individually and with groups. Challenges will include pencil holders, bridges, robots and so much more! Do you have what it takes to become a master builder? $15 Fee
Jr. FLL (2nd grade only)
Using LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 Base Set and Software, students explore the exciting world of robotics! Florida Lego League Jr. makes science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and coding come to life. The unique combination of the LEGO brick, classroom-friendly software, and engaging standards-based projects results in a resource that builds students’ confidence to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions by putting STEM learning directly in their hands. FLL Jr. is an academic club for 2nd and 3rd grade and students will be invited to attend after all applications have been reviewed. Yearly Fee of $125 is required upon acceptance.
Rising Road Runners
Rising New York Road Runners is a free, nationwide program that helps youth develop the ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life. We take a developmental approach to physical education that's focused on a student's age, needs, and ability. Our research-based program consists of games and activities that make it fun to learn - and teach - the fundamental movement skills at the heart of running and most other sports. No fee
Yoga Club
This playful club encourages self-expression as well as building social skills. Children will strengthen their bodies as they learn how to focus through breathing and relaxation techniques. Kids sing, draw and play yoga in this energy releasing club. It's filled with games, songs, stories, imaginative play, and activities that engage children and give them the tools to feel calmer, happier, and more peaceful inside! $15 fee for t-shirts
Spelling Bee Club
Don't want to sing, "la la, la, mi, mi, mi."
Don't have a knack for artsy things.

Literature Build
Each week we will read a book and then break out into small groups. In groups students will build something they read about. Then everyone will take a short tour to each group's buildings where the groups will explain what they made and how they made it. Each week will be a different story and building! We will use Legos, blocks, popsicle sticks, etc. $15 Fee
Science Club
Are you always asking the questions "how" and "why"? We are seeking young scientists to discover the "hows" and "whys" of our universe. Students will have the opportunity to gain a perspective of our universe, our galaxy, and pinpoint our beautiful Planet Earth. Topics covered include: Outer Space, Earth Science, Living Things, and Caring for Planet Earth. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences and meet real scientists in our community. Let's do science! $5 Fee
K-2 Sports and Games
Promote and develop interest in a particular sport or physical activity based on recreational, instructional, competitive, or a combination of these types of activities (jump rope, soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, games, etc.) Students will utilize loco-motor skills, cooperation, coordination, endurance and critical thinking skills through interactive games and sport drills. No fee
K-2 Dance Club
Calling all dancers! Do you enjoy busting a move and want to show off your dance skills? Do you want to learn different dance styles throughout time? Well, Dance Club is the place to be! Come join our Dance Club. No fee
K-2 I-Ready Club
This club will provide a calm and quiet environment for students to come and complete their weekly I-Ready minutes for both Reading and Math. Each week students will be given a laptop to use to independently complete their lessons. They will need a pair of headphones they can bring weekly, and a copy of their log-in information to keep in the club room. No fee
Crazy 8s
Crazy 8s is a multi-sensory and interactive club designed to get students excited about math. Each week students are introduced to a mathematical concept through various games and activities. For example, students will have the opportunity to build glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret spy codes and play get-up-and-move games like Toilet Paper Olympics. The club offers a variety of materials to fulfill the wide range of abilities of students’ kindergarten through second grade. No fee
STEAM Club
Science + Technology + Engineering + ART + Math = STEAM! We will explore problem solving and creative thinking with planned projects and open-ended activities. No Fee
Lower Gardening Club
Come grow with us in the gardening club! In this club, Kindergarteners, First and Second graders will learn about the fascinating world of plants through hands-on activities. We will work together to plant, research, observe and even eat in our own little garden. $15 Fee
Theatre Club
Let’s Dance! Does your child love to sing, dance, or act? Do they have a genuine love for music? This club will give them an opportunity to experience Music Arts by learning strategic, fun, age-appropriate dance moves to their favorite songs. They will learn basic singing skills in voice or chorus within a kids choir, and gain experience in solo training by fun activities including karaoke! Eventually we will begin working on age appropriate plays and musicals where they can learn acting skills from some of their favorite Disney Broadway productions! No fee
Yearbook Club (2nd-5th Grade Students Only)
In Yearbook Club, we design, promote, and sell the RCSAM Yearbook. Our main goals are to capture the atmosphere of RCSAM and include every student's picture in the book. Yearbook club will help reinforce writing and social skills. It requires a great deal of writing and time, but it is a positive experience. Students will work with a teacher advisor to determine a theme and layout for the yearbook, and they will also be involved with taking pictures that will be used in the yearbook. Weekly meetings are held to discuss procedures, expectations, sales, layout & theme, editing, counting, labeling, and distribution of yearbooks. The yearbook is enjoyed by all as a lasting memory. No camera or experience necessary! No fee

Cultural Club
The “Cultural Club” is a club where students will learn and share more about other cultures. Each week/month the club will focus on a new culture. They will learn and explore more about food, music, language, dance, arts and crafts, history and more. No fee
Library Club
Students will enjoy extra library time, checking out books of their choice, reading and possibly taking AR quizzes to ensure meeting their goals. No fee
3-5 Soccer Club
Students will learn and execute skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting goals, offensive/defensive strategies, and more. We start a tournament every two weeks and do consolation rounds every other week. No fee
3-5 Sports

Drama Club
In Drama Club, students will learn some of the basics of stage presence, practice acting skills, and assist in making props and sets for a play. They will perform the play in front of their schoolmates and parents during the school year. There is a place for the natural actor/actress AND the shy (behind the scenes) drama lover in this club! Sign up and be a part of RCSAM’s Drama Club! *This club will require some longer sessions for dress rehearsals, and students and families will be expected to provide some set materials and costume pieces for the performance.
$20 fee for a club t-shirt and to help cover material and prop fees.

3-5 Yoga Club
Yoga helps kids to detach from all these pressures and accept themselves for who they are. Yoga is a noncompetitive activity that provides kids a strong sense of self. With practice, they can identify how their bodies move and feel. They also learn respect for others. Yoga improves concentration, flexibility and self confidence in children and adults alike. Please have students come prepared with a Yoga Mat of their own and comfortable and appropriate clothing if they decide to change. Optional club t-shirt fee - $10

In Running Club, students will learn the importance of stretching before and after any physical activity as well as the importance of proper hydration every day. Students will also learn how to pace themselves while running, how to set and work towards goals, as well as how to work as a team. No Fee
Chess Club
After school activity designed to give kids an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy competing against their peers. Novice players will be taught the basic rules, the value of pieces, and how to checkmate. More experienced players will learn different opening and defense strategies, various tactics, and will be given the opportunity to challenge themselves by solving chess puzzles. While students will have the chance to measure their progress through wins and losses against their peers, our focus will be on encouraging good sportsmanship and on having fun. No fee

Life Skills
Life Skills will be a club where we focus on organizational and simple tasks that students can use in their everyday life. We will be doing hands-on activities that can be implemented into weekly routines, both in an educational environment and at home. No fee
Gardening
Join our gardening club and plant seeds for success! In the gardening club, we will explore projects that help us to learn about all kinds of plants. We will design and plant our very own garden. We’ll watch it grow, learn from it and even eat some of it! $15 fee

Mathletics [Grades 4 & 5 only] - invitation only
Mathletics is an elite academic team, created for students who excel in math. The participants of this club will practice each week to prepare for an individual online contest which will take place in the spring against students in Florida. This club provides an enrichment opportunity to participate in an academic activity and to gain recognition for mathematical achievement. The goal of the contest is educational and to promote enjoyment in the study of math for grades 4-5. Each contest includes topics appropriate for each grade at a higher academic level. The questions cover a variety of areas requiring students to use higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. The contest consists of topics of interest to above-average students. All participants are expected to attend the club each week, with their required materials, and ready to practice for the official contest. They will apply their knowledge and explore new resolutions. Each school receives certificates of achievement for its highest scoring students in each grade level. The commitment is high and there will be a rigorous selection process after the completion of the application form. The biggest benefits of this team include rigorous questions, academic acceleration, and better college preparation at a younger age. Mathletics students may be eligible to take high school classes in middle school. The purpose of this elite academic team is to provide a positive experience for students who find problem-solving discussions stimulating and for those who enjoy a challenge. No Fee
Science Olympiad [Grades 3-5] - invitation only
The Science Olympiad team needs high achieving students and your child is a perfect candidate. Science Olympiad is a competition that challenges students in biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, and the nature of science. As an inquiry-based competition, students do more than report on what they have researched – they perform and demonstrate in authentic ways that excite students, teachers, and parents alike. A strong commitment is required. Students will have a mandatory meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-3:45 and additional practices throughout the week and occasional Saturdays. Students will work independently and with their peers to solve advanced-level science problems and learn scientific concepts to prepare for the Science Olympiad competition in the spring. We will have out of town competitions on Saturdays at least 2 times this year. All parents or guardians are welcome to chaperone. There is a $25 fee, once your application has been accepted.
Dot and Dash
Imagine it, build it, and make it go! Using Dot and Dash Blocky and Wonder apps, students will explore the exciting world of robotics! Students will code robots to complete several different missions. Missions will increase in intensity. Students will complete logs and videos for each mission. Missions will be submitted for competitions. Today’s elementary students are tomorrow’s creative problem-solvers. Equip them with the necessary STEM knowledge and skills to be innovative and imaginative thinkers. Yearly Fee of $125 is required upon acceptance.
