ACADEMIC CLUBS:

Elementary Science Olympiad (Grades 3-5; Invitation Only)

Elementary Science Olympiad is special science competition in which school-based teams of up to twelve students compete in thirteen events across various science fields. In previous years, our students prepared for and competed in events spanning fields such as astronomy, anatomy, chemistry, entomology, geology, physics, and mechanical engineering. The Science Olympiad program is a wonderful opportunity to involve students in all disciplines of science and continue their learning well beyond that of the classroom.

Math League - Mathletics Club (Grades 4-5; Application Only)

Mathletics is an elite academic team, generated for students who excel in math. The participants of this club will practice each week to prepare for an individual online contest which will take place in the spring against students in Florida. This club provides an enrichment opportunity to participate in an academic activity and to gain recognition for mathematical achievement. The goal of the contest is educational and to promote enjoyment in the study of math for grades 4-5. Each contest includes topics appropriate for each grade at a higher academic level. The questions cover a variety of areas requiring students to use higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. The contest consists of topics of interest to above-average students.

Elementary National Honor Society (Grade 5; Invitation Only)

An academic club where students meet once a week to create and carry out community service projects. Some projects are school based and others will serve our community. All activities will take place on campus and will include projects such as: cards for students and teachers, posters for motivational testing, designing and creating toys for our local humane society, Earth day projects and much more. Students will be required to keep A/B grades and not miss more than 10 days in a school year.

Jr. FLL (Grades K-3)

Imagine it, build it, and make it go! Using LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 Base Set and Software, students will explore the exciting world of robotics! Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system, a powerful microcomputer brick, and intuitive drag-and-drop programming software this adventure will have students creating robots on day one.

Today’s elementary students are tomorrow’s creative problem-solvers. Equip them with the necessary STEM knowledge and skills to be innovative and imaginative thinkers. LEGO® Education helps make abstract STEM concepts tangible by taking teaching out of the textbooks and putting it into the hands of your students. Create a better understanding of STEM subjects while building 21st-century skills. LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 makes science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and coding come to life. The unique combination of the LEGO brick, classroom-friendly software, and engaging, standards based projects results in a resource that builds students’ confidence to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions by putting STEM learning directly in their hands. The LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 curriculum pack is built on Next Generation Science Standards and delivers key science content to second grade students. The curriculum facilitates and supports a clear, easy-to-follow journey through subjects, including: life-, physical-, earth- and space sciences, and engineering. Features 17 projects totaling more than 40 hours of instructional content. All applications will be considered for this club.

CLUBS:

K-2 Yoga

Children need to be active and healthy, in mind and body, to truly grow their potentials in school and in life. The Lower Yoga Club will help build strength, balance, and concentration. Students will learn yoga techniques to relax their minds, strengthen their bodies, and focus their energy. This will encourage hard work, stress relief, and fun!

Awesome Authors (1st and 2nd grade only)

This club will focus each week on learning about children’s book authors, reading their book out loud, and completing an activity based on what we read or each student’s favorite part of the story. This will help build vocabulary, strengthen fine motor skills using writing and illustrating activities, and encourage social skills/interaction as we discuss the author and their book and ask questions during the read aloud. 

Crazy 8s Club - “Where math goes wild!” for K-2

Crazy 8s is an amazing after school club that is designed to get students excited about math. Students will have the opportunity to build, run and jump, make music, make a mess…and especially make friendships. This is not like your usual math club…We’re here to have fun! 

K-2 Soccer Club `

In this club, students will learn basic soccer and teamwork skills. By incorporating fun, age appropriate cooperation games, students will learn the importance of teamwork and working together. Soccer skills will be introduced within small groups of students and will build in progression to a scrimmage the last 20 minutes of club. Students should wear comfortable tennis shoes to this club and bring a water bottle.

Drama Club (Grades 3-5)

We will study scripts, stage presence, vocalization techniques, character development, improvisation, monologues, dialogues, etc. We will also put on 2 plays for the school throughout the year. We will hold a number of fundraisers to help with the cost of costumes.

Chess Club (Grades 3-5)

After school activity designed to give kids an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy competing against their peers. Novice players will be taught the basic rules, the value of pieces,  and how to checkmate. More experienced players will learn different opening and defense strategies, various tactics, and will be given the opportunity to challenge themselves by solving chess puzzles. While students will have the chance to measure their progress through wins and losses against their peers, our focus will be on encouraging good sportsmanship and on having fun. 

Music Appreciation Club for K-2

Students will be introduced to many different aspects of music, including elements of music, musical instruments, music around the world, musical style, musical, and emotion. Also, students will gain a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of music such as pitch, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, texture, and history.

Just Dance for K-2

Students will follow fun, easy going dances and exercises in Just Dance Club. Come and get ready to bust a move!

Rising Road Runners (Mighty Milers) for K-2

Rising New York Road Runners, NYRR’s (previously Mighty Milers) is built to develop movement skills in kids through a mix of running and fitness activities. The program is designed to help kids build their confidence, their motivation, and their desire to be physically active for life. Students will track their miles and receive incentives for goals met.

Chorus Club (Grades 3-5)

For those who love to sing! We will practice each week for two performances throughout the year. The performances will be a mixture of traditional and modern music. Students may be asked to sign during different school functions, such as award ceremonies, academic competitions, etc.

Soccer club (Grades 3-5)

Students will develop soccer skills and play a quick scrimmage to put their new-found skills to the test.
Students will play soccer while learning fundamentals and teamwork. Students will need to have proper equipment to ensure safety.

Yoga Club (Grades 3-5)

Yoga helps kids to detach from all these pressures and accept themselves for who they are. Yoga is a noncompetitive activity that provides kids a strong sense of self. With practice, they can identify how their bodies move and feel. They also learn respect for others. Yoga improves concentration, flexibility and self confidence in children and adults alike. Please have students come prepared with a Yoga Mat of their own and comfortable and appropriate clothing if they decide to change.
